Description
Some of us might love a drooping willow; I love such greenish and opulent willows as well which seem like life, not death. However, in this painting, I depicted scraggy, weird, and eerie willows like they live in a dismal winter, yet oddly they are all greenish, instead of lifeless blackish-brown trunks, in such winter. Even the willows seem like they are dancing with the soundless wind on the canvas, and an ice-cold and mysterious brook is seen at their side. The brook symbolizes life, the fountain of life. What I colored the willows with all the unique grass-green is so as to represent the internal desire, which is the ardent life, the willows cherish without anyone knowing. Regardless, cruel and scraggy death is killing the willows, in other words, the volition of life of the willows; the willows' volition is expressed by dancing in this way, so I entitled the willows' dances as 'Melancholy Willows.'
